FAQs
What is BLK Girl Space?
BLK Girl Space is a healing-centered community created by and for Black women. We offer safe, culturally affirming experiences, from therapy sessions and wellness workshops and festivals, that support mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness.
Is BLK Girl Space only for Black girls/women?
Yes. Our programming, events, and physical spaces are intentionally curated for Black women and girls. This boundary is not about exclusion, it’s about healing. It’s about creating the kind of space we often don’t get to exist in freely and fully.
Can allies or non-Black folks attend or support?
We appreciate allyship! While in-person programming is for Black women and girls, allies can support by donating, sharing resources, or advocating for safe spaces for Black girls/women in their own communities and institutions.
Is BLK Girl Space a nonprofit?
Yes! BLK Girl Space is a registered 501c3. We are a community-rooted nonprofit dedicated to the holistic healing of Black women and girls. Your support helps us continue offering free and low-cost programming, wellness supplies, and accessible mental health resources.
What is the cost of the free monthly group therapy sessions?
The group therapy sessions are completely free for Black women, but they aren’t without cost. Each session is funded through donations, sponsorships, and grants. On average, each session costs $300–$500 to host (including therapist fees, space, and materials). Your support helps us keep these sessions accessible and consistent for women who need them most.
Is the space kid-friendly?
BLK Girl Space is primarily designed to be a sanctuary for Black women to rest, reflect, and heal. While we honor and uplift the role of mothers and caregivers in our community, not all programming is kid-friendly due to the nature of the conversations, energy work, and emotional processing that takes place.
That said, we are working on creating family-friendly offerings and healing spaces for mothers that may include child care or kid-friendly components in the future. We believe mamas deserve soft landings too, and we’re holding space for that expansion.
Do I have to register for events and sessions?
Yes, registration is required for all BLK Girl Space events and sessions. We keep our gatherings intimate and intentional, so registering helps us plan for space, supplies, and your comfort. Whether it’s group therapy or a workshop, we want to make sure everyone is cared for and seen.
Early registration is always encouraged, as our events tend to fill up quickly.
